Happy new year.

I wonder if the combination of how different and how same the humans are, makes it impossible to have a lasting peace on the planet. It feels like there are two major groups of people, no matter what country they are in. The first is the aggressive one, the one that wants to dominate the others. The other is the more passive one, the one that wants to work things out and avoid violence.
Neither can give up, neither can surrender. Perhaps for peace to rule over all, total war must take place. One side must prevail through fighting. One side must obliterate the other, make it nother but a memory.
Of course that would mean that for the more pacifist side (or better, passive) to change strategy and fight like the other. It doesn't matter if it is the one that wins or not. One side will prevail, peace will be here.
The cost, huge. Is it going to be more than not having one side prevail for the rest of the human future? Would it be better to save say 2 billion people now, and let many more die over the centuries? Is one way more humane than the other? Logical? Ethical?

Congratulations to Russia for winning this year's Eurobasket cup, held in Spain.

In an exciting final the Russian team managed to win the Spanish team although not the better team.
Still, it is nice some times to watch a more ethical team winning a cup from a team that though better, has some clowns in it dragging it down with their behaviour inside the game.

Once again, congratulations Russia.

Also, congratulations to Lithuania for defeating 2005's european champion, Greece in the second/small final for the 3rd-4th place. Greece was not as good as it should during eurobasket 07 and it was not worth a better place with the way it played.

The true face of organised religion.

They decide that someone is not a God. Even easier and faster than when they decided she is a Goddess. Now, were they wrong in the first place? Is it possible that the kid was not a real God and instead was just decided so by some people because that is how things were done, or what?

The whole thing is an eye opener.

You see I knew of people giving the status of a God to a star, or the wind or some newborn baby.
Also I was aware of people having founded whole huge religions on the premise that a real God had spoken to them, and they have decided to write "his" words down then everybody had to follow the written word because, you know, it was definetely God's words! No way they would lie to the people to follow a "false" belief. No fucking way!

Still, I have to say it is the first time I hear of someone's status as a God to be revoked just because the people behind the religion don't like what she did. I mean, since when a God can do whatever he/she wants and not follow the rules established by humans, ehhh, I am sorry, I meant by the God(s)....eh, what?

What do you do when you feel lonely and there is no one around? When the time is such that you can't call anyone or meet anyone.

Watching an episode of Due South and one character is sitting near a window, watching outside. It is very late and the only lights come from a couple of street lights. No traffic or anything else going on. It reminds me of images from when as a kid I would spend time in the town of Xanthi, just outside of it, in a huge and very cold factory/home building of some relatives. I would sleep on the sofa, living room while having a clear, but dark, view of the highway and further on the horizon the mountains of Rodopi. Watching cars and mainly trucks go by. I remember the feeling of both loneliness and excitement. Something about the night that I just can't have enough of.

For the last 2 days my right ear hurts. A lot. I get some anti biotic and some painkiller to treat it but it doesn't feel it does much. Well, the painkiller helps a little, but more like delaying the pain than anything more. This morning, though I went to bed at about 6am, I woke up at 10am. From the pain. I didn't want to but I went ahead and called for a doctor. She should be here in the next 40 min or so.

not entirely his fault
because life in most capitalist societies is very stressful. Constant requirement to show (not prove) that you are better than the next guy, that you have better brains, looks, dick, pussy, eyes, car, books, etc.

also everything and everyone is looking at the surface of things and only looks deeper when immediately affected
which is part of why this guy did what he did.

For a few days now I am a Full Moderator at the AOW server of n00bless.com (that is zero zero).
You can join any time you want, as long as you play the game Command and Conquer Renegade.

I also bought a few things, among them a good? pair of headphones/headset that I still wait for, and the game Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories for the PSP console. Fun game, same as the other 3D GTA games, and impressive, or rather, more impressive since it runs on a portable system. Radio stations are as always a blast and make me smile.

New "recipe":
Get a large glass of cold milk. Put enough sugar in it to be sweet for you, then put some more. Half a small tea spoon of instant coffee and a tea spoon of honey. Drink.

Crap, that's part of it anyway. Not a good trio of days. You know how you have a bad day or week and you just know that just around the corner, before reaching the new page, the improved story, you will feel more and more bad? That something is bound to happen that will screw with your head just enough to think various things, including the "why me?"? Well, this is not one of those days. The last 3 days are not like it either. No, this is more like a huge blank. Hmm, a chasm, a black hole only without the mass, and probably on big enough to fit me.
Like being a nice shiny pointy, bullet. Out of a gun, and on its way to a nice juicy tanker. Full of, I don't know, acid?
  Three days one feeling worse than the previous one. Nothing specificaly having happened in these three days either. No one died. No loss of loved ones (in all meanings), no loss of good health or money? On day after the other like going one step after the next. Not worrying that where it leads is probably something mildy unhappy, like say death. No worry at all. In fact wishing you had taken the lift. Or to my fellow trekkies there, the turbo-lift. Not giving a damn. Really, not caring one bit.
  I know it is normal for anyone at one point to think of death. Either when you are a child or much older. We all live and die, part of who or what we are. What worries me is not even that I wish this was a shorter trip. What worries me is why I have reached the point of not worrying about anything, including worrying about worrying and still not care enough to worry even for that. Funny thing, I am not worried because I would like it to change so much as because I am bored. Not the "oh all is good but boring" kind of bored. More like the I am tired of life, sick of everything kind of bored. With perfect good reasoning behind it too. Flawless logic in fact that support my less than happy thoughts. I am not a stupid person, I am actually very clever. Most people don't know it because I can't care enough to show any interest in most things and they take it at best as a luck of capacity at one point to if not comprehent, at least have the capacity to accept as one way or another.
  It's quite simple, if I was given the choice right now to live or die I know which I would choose. Don't take it the wrong way though, I am not talking about committing suicide. No, you see there is something in me, like a hunch, like a premonition that is beyond reasoning. Yes I do appreciate the irony in it. I am not talking about something huge like saving the world. Something else, that just don't know.
  So, given enough good health and luck, I will stay here for a long time more than it would be perhaps logical.

I don't want to close with something as dark as the above paragraph, so I will give away a recipe. Most of you know it already, and trust me, it is not something special. But I do like it.

Toast of bread.
Oregano.
Salt.
Olive oil.

Make sure the slice of bread is hot, crunchy if you prefer, then add the olive oil. About 5-10ml. Depending on the slice of bread. Make sure the oil is on the whole surface, add a pinch (or a tiny bit more) of oregano and some salt to make it salty, like potato crisp/chip salty. Use a small spoon to make sure the ingredients are spread all over the bread. Have a glass of water near you. Eat the bread!

As I have mentioned before, one of my favourite games is Command and Conquer Renegade. I first started playing this game a little after it was released, back in 2002. Online only.
For the last couple or so years kept playing by 90% to a specific server, nice guys the owners, nice guys the players. All was great. For a brief time I was even promoted to a moderator there.
At one point, like a month or a bit more ago, one of the owners of the server, let's call him W1, asked me to take a test, cause he believed I was cheating. I hardly ever played against this guy. Anyway, I said sure, he tested me, he found me, naturaly, innocent. Since I have never cheated in a multiplayer game in my life. After a couple of weeks, for some reason I don't know, less and less people were playing there. In fact 99% of the time I wanted to play the game, the server was either empty or just with 2-3 people in. So I spent my time playing the game on other servers more time than usual.
  Earlier tonight, the same guy, was trying to get into our base. I saw him going in the tunnels near our base, I followed him, I entered the tunnels and went downhill towards the Nod Power Plant entrance. Hearing the Obelisk firing I knew I was going the right way. Got out of the tunnels and trying to decide if I should go towards the power plant or the Hon, then saw an explosion from the back door of the Hon. I run to the front door of it, entered and saw the guy, as a the Hotwire character (I was Ravenshaw) going up the internal ramp, and trying to get out of the window. He jumped and I shot him, he had lots of damage and I hit him with my gun, he died. He started saying that I cheat, that he knows that I cheat. That he knew about it for ages and other bullshit. Bullshit not because he didn't believe it, but because it has no base to reality.
He kept talking about this, I asked for support from another owner of the server that he knows me a bit better, and he refused to take part in this.
I asked W1 if he wanted me to leave and not play there again, he said that this is exactly what he wanted and that if I would talk to him again he would ban me from playing there again...
  I left, went to the forum, posted a goodbye message, which he locked immediately. Perhaps he didn't want to hear from people that what he did was very stupid, irrational etc etc. Of course none would say these words since they would get banned, but you get my point.
  What a noob, nothing else.

Sheep or Humans?

That is what humans are.  If there was one thing that the god of the ancient jews was right, it is this.
Humans are like sheep. Though there are few exceptions, most are like sheep, they almost demand to be guided. Can't think on their own, or better, don't allow themselves to think on their own. They prefer the safety of not having to rely on their own brain, but instead follow the more secure way of following others.
  Humans are like sheep for one more reason. They tend to rely on their nature more to reach decisions and act than on logic. When they do think, they do so as long as it doesn't stop them from being sheep.
  If several people said "this is what god(s) want" or "don't you love your country?", trying to pursuade "you" to do as they want, then chances are you will. You will admit that since god(s) want this, it must be what you must do. You will admit that since you love your country, what they are saying it is the right thing to do if you do love your country, you must do as they say. After all, you wouldn't love your country/god otherwise, correct?
Sheep.
  Why? No, really, why? When, how and why again. You should ask. Don't settle for answers that have to rely on you having faith, faith on their word, faith that they actualy know and they are not lying to you. If you have to rely on faith to believe/be persuaded about a course of action, then you are, sheep.
  Proof, you have to demand for proof. When/if proof is given to you, watch out, is it possible to reach to other conclusions with the proof given to you, different than what they are telling you?
  Courage, you have to be brave. You will be accused of being a coward, a traitor, stupid, sleeping with the enemy. You (depending on where you live) might also face persecution, imprisonment, or even death. Nothing I can say will help you with this, you are on your own. Each of us is. When the circumstances are such, beware. Plan accordingly, but don't give up. When the shit hits the fan, you will suffer, make it sure you make it clear to everybody as why this is happening. Don't apologise, don't retreat. We only live our lives once, make it worth it.
  Don't be sheep, be human beings.

Mistakes or something worse? The democractic and capitalistic West continues to support governments and ruling parties all over the world, that have nothing to do with the West's values. The above news item is just a small example. People in Saudi Arabia, among other countries, are simply not free. Governments and rulers that are closer to Hitler's and Stalin's practices than of anyone free and democratic. They care not for the good of their people unless it is something that will help them remain in power and continue to steal from their own country.

People growing up and living in such countries have a clear look for the West. Countries and people that support the people that suppress them and keeping them in check. They see the West doing nothing but helping their rulers continue to keep them in poverty, lack of freedom and constant propaganda.
What happens then when the people want things to change? We have two usual relief valves. One is what happened in Afghanistan with the Taliban. The other is what is happening in Saudi Arabia among other countries. They know, or believe that they cannot do anything to change in their own countries, and they try to release their anger somehow. Violent protests against a comic strip for example. Placing their beliefs and hopes on religious issues, devine powers that for many, is the only solution, only relief from their suffering. The extremists get more and more recruits every day, easily.
In the meantime what do the governments and rulers of those states do to help the West that helps them stay in power? Nothing. In fact they prefer it this way since the people instead of protesting (at least) against them, they attack, verbaly and physicaly, people and objects of the West.
Yes, that is right, the allies of the West are helping terrorists to attack the West. Because that saves their own ass. The West continues to support them since they are making money, and getting access to oil, and are fueling their own destruction. With no end in sight.

I am worried, religious and "religious" violence is on the increase, intolerance is also increasing, not only in those countries but also in the West. What we see is the continuous slow eradication of Western values, in Europe and the USA. How many more terrorist attacks before things get way worse? A possible attack(s) with WMD, would that bring much faster, much more "efficiently" an end to the broader democratic values of the West? A broad change that even Hitler wouldn't have dreamed of? We keep feeding the monster that might consume us all.
I am very worried about the future.

He is claiming not only that the holocaust never happened, but that also Israel will soon being
wiped out. I guess in case that it didn't happen, he wants to make it happen.

Perhaps it is just me, but the world has many people like him, people in powerful positions, ready to commit crimes against humanity. There are two ways for them to stop being a threat. The first is for the world to survive and out evolution them. The second is to deal with them, in force and without declaring whole wars for them. For that to happen succesfuly a non partisan, independent and not related to a country group must take the responsibility and deal with the problem.

Renegade troubles

So earlier today/yesterday some prick managed to wreck havoc on our online game.  Managed to get powers to
kick and ban people from the server, while masquerading as mods
I wish I knew who that asshole was to, as cartman used to say, kick him in the nuts.

Other than that, nothing much, oh I did finish the campain of Company of Heroes under Normal
difficulty level.  Perhaps a bit too easy, apart from the mission where I had to defend the hil 197
I didn't feel threatened in any mission.  I am thinking of either starting a new campain on a harder
difficulty setting or play some more skirmish missions. So far I (skirmish) play with the USA airborne "general". I just love the ability to airdrop troops far behind enemy lines and cause damage there.

polonium-210

I have my doubts as to who, if anyone, poisoned with polonium-210 the russian ex spy Alexander Litvinenko. Although at first, I thought that the whole "Putin killed him" was a strong possibility, I now have my doubts.
The reasons for that are three. The first is that it does not make any sense to use something as "exotic" as radiation poisoning, to execute someone. There are plenty of poisons available that leave far less traces than...radiation.
The second is that Traces of radiation were found, and continue to be found in many places all around Europe. If Alexander Litvinenko was poisoned shortly before dying, even a couple of days, there was no way for him to spread the radiation by visiting all these places around Europe in such a short time.
The third reason is one that when I think of the first two with it, brings some interesting possibilities to the table of conspiracies. This man recently turned into follower of Islam. By itself it might not mean much, but considering the problems with the previous theories, it makes another theory available. What if, this guy was smuggling in radioactive materials to support an attack in the UK? From what I understand Polonium 210 is not the best material to make a nuke, but it should be good enough to make a so called, dirty bomb. At some point there was a leakage, Alexander was trying to cover his own tracks to perhaps save his accomplices from exposure, and knowing he was going to die anyhow, accused Putin in his effort to confuse the invistigators looking for answers. He knew that sooner or later the real material for his ill health would be found so if he has accused Putin before they figured it out, it will all look "normal".
The media don't seem to mention too much his recent change of religion, perhaps trying to be pc, or just not thinking about it in the same way as I.
I hope that investigators will do a good job, because I am worried that perhaps there is a real plan to attack the UK (or perhaps even Russia) with a dirty bomb.

Not only wanting to kill and cause damage for his wicked vision of what is right and what is wrong,
not only having serious issues with his personal life, but also very very stupid. He actualy believed
that the guy (FBI agent) was going to trade grenades and a handgun for a set of FUCKING SPEAKERS! I think someone like this might had a better luck trying to commit a suicide bombing,
at least that way he would have succeeded in at least killing himself. Because none that stupid
even deserves to be called anything as bad as terrorist. No, this guy is a waste of space.

I don't know about you, but I like chocolate very much.  Not so much on its own, but mixed
with other ingredients.  Or as a drink, mmmm.

Playing Company of Heroes for the last 2 days.  The game is a Real Time Strategy game set
in the second world war.  It is a very very good and fun to play game.  For the last couple of days
it is the only game I play, apart from Renegade of course.  I am amazed by the visual quality of
this game.  You can zoom in to see the individual bullets like you are playing a FPS game, and still
looking great.  It is a visual feast if nothing else.  If you have a powerful PC, give it a try.

About 1.5 hours ago I went to bed.  Feeling very tired and eager to get some sleep.
FUCKING MOSQUITO!  December, winter and this fucking mosquito managed to
survive enough to come into my place.  This itch....it is driving me...semi crazy.
I found something that plugs into the wall to deal with these bugs (sorry I don't know the
english term)  DAMN IT, I almost killed it twice now, but it got away.

I will watch some tv and/or play some games, I need to stay awake till it goes to sleep or till I kill it.

One of my external hard drive seems to not want to work at 100% .
It is an external Lacie hard drive, with the actual drive supplied by Maxtor.  First I couldn't
access my Patches folder,7- 12 GBs of data (don't remember exactly).
About an hour ago I noticed another folder not being accessible either.  This is not looking good.  I don't have enough space/room on my other HDDs to backup so this is getting very very annoying.  The actual drive is
160GBs.
Interesting info is that I was looking for a new HDD (external) the last couple of months, fearing
that I might lose some data eventualy.   Was looking for the 1TB drives (my total data is at slightly less than 1TB), but stopped after checking the price of them.

Anyone here has a spare large drive to "donate" to me? :)

I tried the Maxtor's utility to check and perhaps repair the drive but apparently my USB keyboard doesn't work when doing that, so I can't press the F8 key that it needs to proceed.
I might need to get a PS/2 keyboard or something.
Frustrating. :)

No, not a human, but a sports club. Actualy it didn't even start as a sports club.

Iraklis is what I am talking about. First started, with a different name, in 1899 in the then

under Ottoman occupation, Thessaloniki. It started as a club related to the fine arts. After a few
years it almost abandoned its roots and in 1908 became the athetics sports club that is known as today. Iraklis FC.

The football (soccer) club doesn't have much to show these days, though it did finish 4th last season, still it is not a contender for any cups or has any chance of winning the league. Now or in the near future. Poor management, bad owners and selling of the best players almost every season, do not allow the team to become any better than it is today. Still I, and others love this team/club and hope or better, dream that one day we will have more to be proud of from it.

Don't know why, but I never liked MARS. I like each ingredient, just not the final product.

In other less important news, a group of people released, or are going to release, some software
that will help (perhaps) citizens living in countries that impose censorship on accessing the Internet,
to circumvent that eh limitation.

Just finished changing some of the settings so that people can actualy read the blog.
Unlike the 360 of Yahoo! now people that do not have an account here can read it.

A warm day today, about 22C, sunny and with a lot of noise from the street as usual.
Had a heated conversation about stealing and piracy, the music cd type of piracy, not the RRRRR ahoy there! piracy. My view is that piracy is bad, very bad and that people that do it on a regular base would NOT buy the product even if the product was sold at a reduced price. Unless there was no other way to buy the product in the first place. What pissed me off a bit was that the same person was complaining how people are thieves by demanding high prices for their products (any product), especialy since the first Euro days, but of course it is ok for the same person to pirate a music cd or software. I told her how stupid that argunment was and how a thief complaining of other people stealing is kinda moronic.
